A devoted husband, loving father, cherished grandfather, and respected community member, Bill’s vibrant spirit and unwavering kindness touched countless lives.

He leaves behind a legacy of integrity, dedication, and an enduring love for his family and community.

Born on October 15, 1937, in Portland, Maine, Bill was the eldest son of Thomas and Eleanor LaFond. From a young age, he exhibited a keen intellect and a strong work ethic. He graduated with honors from Deering High School before pursuing a degree in Electrical Engineering from the University of Maine.

His academic achievements were a testament to his innate curiosity and his commitment to lifelong learning.

Bill embarked on a distinguished career spanning over four decades at General Electric, where he was celebrated for his innovative contributions and his mentorship of younger engineers. His passion for problem-solving and his meticulous approach earned him the respect of colleagues and industry peers alike.

Even in retirement, Bill remained a fount of knowledge, always eager to discuss the latest technological advancements or lend a hand with a complex repair.

Beyond his professional life, Bill’s heart belonged to his family. He met the love of his life, Susan Miller, during his college years, and they shared 62 years of unwavering partnership, laughter, and mutual support.

Together, they built a beautiful home and raised two children, Michael and Sarah, instilling in them values of honesty, compassion, and perseverance. Bill was an extraordinarily patient and engaged father, always present for school plays, sporting events, and late-night talks.

His role as a grandfather brought him immense joy.

He delighted in teaching his grandchildren, Emily and David, how to fish, build intricate model airplanes, and appreciate the wonders of nature. His gentle guidance and playful spirit created a treasure trove of cherished memories that will be held dear forever.

Bill was also a cornerstone of his local community.

A proud member of the Rotary Club for over 30 years, he dedicated countless hours to various charitable initiatives, always striving to make his town a better place. He was an avid gardener, known for his spectacular rose bushes, and an enthusiastic amateur historian, often captivating friends and neighbors with tales of local lore.

A man of quiet strength and profound wisdom, Bill found solace and joy in the simple pleasures of life: a good book, a peaceful walk along the coast, and lively discussions with friends over coffee.

His calm demeanor and thoughtful insights were a comfort to many, and his integrity was beyond reproach.

William Thomas LaFond will be deeply missed by his beloved wife, Susan; his children, Michael LaFond and Sarah (LaFond) Davis; his son-in-law, Robert Davis; his grandchildren, Emily and David Davis; his sister, Margaret LaFond; and a wide circle of friends and extended family.

While our hearts ache with his absence, we take comfort in knowing that his remarkable life touched so many, leaving an indelible mark of love, kindness, and unwavering spirit. His memory will forever be a guiding light for all who were fortunate enough to know him.
