When Xiaomi rolled out the Redmi Note 17 and Redmi Note 17 Pro in China, most of us assumed the line would stay a domestic affair. Yet, leafing through a couple of regulatory filings this week felt a lot like opening a surprise envelope.

Thailand’s National Broadcasting and Telecommunications Commission (NBTC) has listed a “Redmi Note 17 Pro Max 5G” under the model number 2609FRA74G. In Xiaomi’s own naming game, that trailing “G” has historically meant “global”. The prefix “2609” isn’t random either – it usually hints at a September 2026 launch window. It’s a subtle clue, but enough to get the rumor mills humming.

Across the strait, Taiwan’s National Communications Commission (NCC) posted a matching certification. The same device appears with four memory‑storage combos: 8 GB/256 GB, 8 GB/512 GB, 12 GB/256 GB, and 12 GB/512 GB. Even better, the spec sheet confirms a micro‑SD slot that can handle up to a whopping 2 TB – think of the endless photo hoarding you could do.

It isn’t just the Pro Max getting attention. The standard Redmi Note 17 5G also shows up in the NBTC database as model 26081RA18G. A leak from X‑platform writer Kacper Skrzypek hints that the global version might shave a little off the battery, moving from the China‑spec 8,000 mAh down to around 7,700 mAh. Not a massive drop, but something to note for power‑hungry users.

For context, the Chinese edition of the Redmi Note 17 sports a 7‑inch OLED display, is powered by Snapdragon 4 Gen 4, and packs a 50 MP rear shooter with an 8 MP selfie lens. If the global model keeps those core specs, we could be looking at a very compelling mid‑range offering for the rest of the world.

All this said, Xiaomi hasn’t officially said, “Hey, we’re launching globally.” The evidence is circumstantial – model numbers, certification dates, and a few social‑media hints. Still, when two separate telecom authorities have already approved the hardware, the odds are stacking in favor of an international rollout, probably around September 2026.
