World Nomad Games’ Music Festival Unites Artists from 38 Nations in Kyrgyzstan

When the sun set over the sparkling waters of Issyk‑Kul, a chorus of sounds rose from the hills – strings, drums, and voices that had travelled half a world to be heard together. This was the heart of the International Festival of Traditional Music “Kochmondor Sanaty”, held as part of the 6th World Nomad Games in Kyrgyzstan.

Over four days, more than a hundred performers representing 38 countries took to the stage, each eager to share melodies handed down through generations. The programme wove together storytelling, instrumental solos, and vocal‑instrumental pieces, turning the festival into a living museum of world music.

“Traditional music is a priceless treasure that carries the history, worldview, and spiritual heritage of a people from one generation to the next,” said Kyrgyzstan’s Minister of Culture, Information and Youth Policy Mirbek Mambetaliev during the closing ceremony. His words resonated not only with the audience but also with the artists, who felt the weight of preserving something fragile yet vital.

At the ceremony, the minister congratulated the winners and runners‑up, praising their creativity and urging them to keep the flame alive. He also thanked the jury, the organising team led by Roza Amanova, and every volunteer who helped make the event run smoothly.

Beyond the awards, the festival was a reminder of Kyrgyzstan’s warm hospitality. Mambetaliev addressed the international guests, hoping their stay left lasting memories of the country’s rugged landscapes, heartfelt songs, and open‑hearted people.

The music festivities ran hand‑in‑hand with the broader World Nomad Games, which kicked off on August 31 at Bishkek Arena and will conclude on September 6. More than 3,000 athletes from 109 nations are competing across traditional sports, turning the country into a bustling hub of cultural exchange.

As the final notes faded, the lingering sense was clear: the “Kochmondor Sanaty” festival didn’t just showcase music; it stitched together a tapestry of global friendship, proving that melodies can bridge borders as surely as any sporting event.
