Woodstock Police Launch Investigation After Incident on Wellington Street

Woodstock, Ont. – The Woodstock Police Service said they are treating an event that took place on Wellington Street Tuesday night as an ongoing investigation. Officers were dispatched just after 9:30 p.m. after a neighbor called 911, reporting a loud altercation and possible assault near the intersection of Wellington and North Plank Road.

When patrol officers arrived, they found a small crowd gathered and a police cruiser with its lights flashing. According to Sergeant Mike Gallagher, “We had a situation that appeared to be a heated argument that escalated quickly. Several individuals were involved, and unfortunately one of our officers was struck while trying to separate the parties.” The officer sustained non‑life‑threatening injuries and was taken to a nearby hospital for treatment and observation.

Witnesses told officers that the dispute seemed to center around a personal dispute that turned physical. One onlooker, who asked to remain anonymous, said, “I heard shouting, then there was a crash—like something heavy fell. I thought it was a car, but it turned out a guy was shoved.”

Detectives are now canvassing the area, speaking with anyone who might have seen or heard anything, and reviewing security footage from nearby businesses. “We’re asking anyone who was in the vicinity between 9 p.m. and 10 p.m. to come forward,” Gallagher added. “Even the smallest detail could help us piece together what happened.”

The police department reminded residents that they can submit tips anonymously through the Crime Stoppers hotline (1‑800‑222‑8477) or online. They also emphasized the importance of not intervening in violent confrontations, urging citizens to call for help instead.

As of now, no arrests have been made, and the investigation remains active. The police will continue to provide updates as more information becomes available.
