It seems the Diocese of Civitavecchia in Italy has officially decided to part ways with one of its exorcists, Father Don Giorgio Pisanu, and the reason is, shall we say, a little unconventional.

Father Pisanu, who had been serving in this very specific, often dramatic role, was appointed by a previous bishop. His job, traditionally, was to confront and expel what the Church believes to be demonic entities. But here’s the rub: Father Pisanu had developed a rather unique interpretation of these spiritual battles. He wasn't convinced these 'demons' were actually, you know, hellish beings from another dimension. Oh no, he had a far more cosmic explanation in mind.

For Father Pisanu, the culprits weren't traditional demons at all. Instead, he fervently believed that the dark forces at play were, in fact, extraterrestrial beings. That's right – aliens! And those mysterious Unidentified Flying Objects (UFOs) people report seeing? According to Pisanu, they're nothing less than spaceships. He even linked these cosmic theories to the famous 'Third Secret of Fatima,' suggesting a deep, hidden connection between Marian apparitions and visitors from beyond our planet. It’s quite a departure from standard theological doctrine, to put it mildly.

This rather unconventional view, as you might imagine, didn't sit well with the ecclesiastical authorities for too long. The current Bishop, Gianrico Ruzza, apparently took a good, long look at Father Pisanu's theories and decided they were just a bit too far removed from the Church's established teachings. After careful evaluation, Bishop Ruzza made the call to remove him from his exorcist duties. It makes sense, really; the Church, by and large, has a pretty defined view on what constitutes demonic possession, and it doesn't usually involve little green men or flying saucers.

It's a fascinating, if not slightly bewildering, intersection of faith, folklore, and fringe science. While the allure of extraterrestrial life captivates many, the Catholic Church maintains a distinct, centuries-old framework for understanding the spiritual realm. So, for now, at least in Civitavecchia, exorcists will likely stick to battling the more traditional kind of evil, leaving the cosmic encounters to the science fiction writers – or perhaps, to other less formal discussions.
