West Sikkim's Heartbreak: Landslides Claim Lives, Dozens Missing Amidst Desperate Search

West Sikkim is reeling from an unprecedented natural disaster as incessant rainfall has triggered a series of devastating landslides, leading to a tragic loss of life and leaving dozens of individuals unaccounted for. The picturesque region has been transformed into a landscape of despair, with rescue operations underway in a desperate race against time.

The calamity, which struck with ferocious intensity, has claimed at least six confirmed lives, while the fate of approximately 24 missing persons hangs precariously in the balance.

Communities across the district, particularly in areas like Zoom and Daramdin, have borne the brunt of nature's fury, with homes and entire sections of villages swept away by the raging mud and debris. The emotional toll on the survivors, grappling with the sudden loss of loved ones and their entire livelihoods, is immeasurable.

A massive, multi-agency rescue operation has been launched, spearheaded by the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), State Disaster Response Force (SDRF), and the Indian Army, alongside local police and volunteers.
