Vinod Bansal Fires Back at Hamid Ansari: ‘Stop Insulting India’

During a recent lecture at an Islamic centre, former Vice‑President Hamid Ansari said that Hindu right‑wing politics had taken on a communal flavour. The remark didn’t sit well with Vinod Bansal, a senior figure in the Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP).

“India gave you a position, respect and a salary. Please stop insulting the country,” Bansal told ANI, adding that Ansari’s comments were not only unfair but also ignored the real source of danger – extremist mindsets that thrive on dividing the majority and minority.

He went on to point out that Ansari’s own diplomatic record should be taken into account. “It’s odd that you make such statements in an Islamic centre, but let’s also ask who is making the remarks,” Bansal said, hinting at Ansari’s alleged links with organisations like the Popular Front of India (PFI) and the Social Democratic Party of India (SDPI) during his vice‑presidential stint.

According to Bansal, the threat to India does not emanate from the Hindu majority. Instead, it comes from “people with extremist mindsets who spread the poison of minority‑majority divisions and protect those who promote radicalism.” He reminded listeners that Muslims have long held constitutional posts and have benefited from the nation’s opportunities.

“Before you point fingers, look back at your own role and responsibilities,” Bansal urged, urging Ansari to reconsider his phrasing and to include concerns about extremism when discussing threats to the country.

In a separate statement, Bansal reflected on the recent Delhi University Students’ Union (DUSU) elections. He praised the outcome, saying it showed that attempts to mislead the youth were losing ground. “The youth are the future. Elections like these keep them on the right track – focused on education, values, service and national development,” he said, noting the ABVP’s win of three key posts and an independent candidate’s victory for Vice‑President.

The VHP leader’s comments come as political and communal tensions continue to simmer across the nation, with both sides accusing each other of stoking division. Whether Bansal’s admonition will temper the debate remains to be seen.
