VBF Fencers Dominate Ahmedabad Tournament with Seven Medals

VBF fencers clinch 7 medals, sweep women's foil in Ahmedabad

At the 1st Senior Ranking Fencing Tournament in Ahmedabad, Vijayi Bharat Foundation (VBF) athletes bagged seven medals, including a clean sweep of the women's foil podium.

Last weekend the city of Ahmedabad turned into a buzzing arena for Indian fencing, as the 1st Senior Ranking Fencing Tournament 2026‑27 unfolded under the watchful eyes of the Amateur Fencing Association of Gujarat and the Fencing Association of India. Among the dozens of competitors, the Vijayi Bharat Foundation (VBF) team walked away with a glittering haul of seven medals.

The headline‑making moment came in the women's foil event, where three VBF fencers stood side by side on the podium. Dippanshi Netam clinched gold, Jasmine took silver and Kanupriya rounded it off with bronze – essentially a clean sweep of three of the four medals on offer.

But the success didn’t stop there. In the women's sabre, Nitika earned a silver medal while Vandita Barad and Abi Devi Laishram each secured bronze. Over in the epee, Nelcyrose Devi added another bronze to VBF’s tally. All in all, the foundation captured three medals in foil, three in sabre and one in epee, accounting for more than half of the 12 medals contested in the women's division.

“Winning gold at a senior ranking tournament feels amazing,” said Dippanshi Netam, still flushed from the victory. “It’s a reminder that every hour in the gym matters, and sharing the podium with Jasmine and Kanupriya makes it even sweeter.” Coach Vijay Kumar, who has been guiding the squad for years, added, “The foil sweep shows the level of consistency we’re building. The medals in sabre and epee tell us the programme is working across the board.”

VBF’s high‑performance centre in Ahmedabad, equipped with modern pistes and experienced coaches, has been a cradle for this new wave of talent. The foundation’s focus on structured training, regular competition exposure and personalized coaching is clearly paying dividends, as the athletes aim for higher stakes – national championships and eventually the world stage.

Looking ahead, the VBF camp plans to fine‑tune techniques, bolster mental toughness and give the fencers more international experience. If this weekend’s performance is any indication, the next few years could see these young women brandishing Indian colors at major Asian and global events.
