Uttarakhand Dispatches Relief to Flood‑Stricken Nepal Amid Rising Death Toll

On Friday, Uttarakhand’s chief minister, Pushkar Singh Dhami, stood beside a line of trucks and vans loaded with blankets, food packets, and medical kits, and gave them a solemn send‑off from his camp office. The convoy is bound for Nepal, a country still reeling from the ferocious flash floods that have ripped through its Himalayan foothills.

According to the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Authority (NDRRMA) in Nepal, the death count has now reached 1,410. Among the dead are 549 men, 336 women and 525 unidentified bodies. The hardest‑hit districts are Chitwan (364 deaths), Nawalparasi East (232), Nawalparasi West (222), Nuwakot (203) and Rasuwa (199). More than 6,000 people are still missing, and rescue crews continue to scour rivers and collapsed houses in a desperate search.

So far, 13,756 residents have been rescued, 344 are receiving treatment in 19 hospitals and another 290 have already been discharged. Security forces have also stepped in, providing medical care to nearly 10,000 flood‑affected citizens.

While the relief mission was underway, Dhami took a moment to honour Prime Minister Narendra Modi on his birthday. He called the prime minister “the architect of modern India” and praised Modi’s lifelong dedication to the nation. Dhami’s tribute also invoked the blessings of Uttarakhand’s revered deities – Baba Kedar and Lord Badri Vishal – wishing the prime minister a long, healthy life and continued guidance for the country.

Speaking about the broader “Viksit Bharat” vision, Dhami highlighted a slew of projects that, in his view, reflect Modi’s push for a developed India: new institutions, upgraded highways, expanded rail networks, and the establishment of more IIMs and IITs, among other milestones.

The relief convoy is expected to reach Nepal within the next few days, bringing a modest but heartfelt gesture of solidarity from one Himalayan state to its neighbour still grappling with one of the worst natural disasters in recent memory.
