Around 2:15 a.m., as most of Austin was fast asleep, an individual walked into the store, seemingly like any other customer. But this was no ordinary visit. Without warning, he reportedly brandished what appeared to be a handgun, immediately turning a routine transaction into a terrifying armed robbery. It must have been an absolutely harrowing moment for the employee on duty, confronted by such an aggressive and unexpected threat.

The suspect, after demanding and taking money from the cash register, then made his swift escape. He was last seen heading north on Congress Avenue, vanishing into the night as quickly as he’d appeared. Thankfully, no one was reported injured during the incident, but the emotional impact of such an event can linger long after the immediate danger has passed.

In the wake of this alarming event, the Austin Police Department (APD) wasted no time launching an investigation. They’ve since released surveillance footage, hoping that the public can help piece together what happened and, more importantly, identify the person responsible. The video, as these things often do, captures a pretty clear picture of the individual they’re looking for.

Detectives describe the suspect as a Black male with a medium build. At the time of the robbery, he was wearing a dark blue hoodie, dark pants, and white shoes, with a red face mask obscuring part of his face. While these details are crucial, it’s often a specific gait, a particular way of moving, or even a tiny detail someone might recall that helps crack a case like this. The APD is urging anyone who might recognize the individual or has any information, no matter how minor it seems, to come forward.
