First up, let’s talk about a truly fantastic initiative: the NFTA's Parks Adventure Bus. Imagine this – free, convenient transportation whisking you away from the hustle and bustle of downtown Buffalo directly to some of Western New York’s most breathtaking outdoor destinations. Now in its fifth season, this incredible program is a collaborative effort, brought to life by the Niagara Frontier Transportation Authority (NFTA), the New York State Office of Parks Recreation & Historic Preservation, the Erie County Parks Department, and the Department of Environmental Conservation. The bus service kicked off on June 8th and continues every single Saturday right through August 3rd, with a handy potential make-up day scheduled for August 17th, just in case. All you have to do is head to the downtown Buffalo bus station at 181 Ellicott Street, and you're good to go. They’ll take you to a wonderful array of parks – think Reinstein Woods Nature Preserve, Chestnut Ridge Park, the historic Fort Niagara State Park, Como Lake Park, Beaver Island State Park, Akron Falls Park, Evangola State Park, and even Emery County Park. And for those curious about Reinstein Woods, which is located at 93 Honorine Drive in Depew, NY, there's an extra treat: free guided tours are offered once the bus drops you off. This is where "Along 4 The Hike" on WIVB+ comes in! This exciting new show is inspired by the immensely popular "Western New York Hiking Challenge," a fantastic initiative created by Mike Rodski. The Challenge itself is celebrating its sixth year, having first launched way back in 2019, encouraging people to earn points by conquering various hikes across a whopping 46 trails stretching from Buffalo all the way to Rochester.

The show, featuring Mike Rodski and (we presume) his co-host Scott, takes viewers on a virtual journey. They discuss local trails in depth, and here's the cool part: they showcase actual GoPro-recorded hikes, complete with all those authentic natural sounds. It's incredibly immersive!
