Udaipur Restaurant Fight Over Insect Sparks Violent Clash

On a Saturday afternoon near Delhi Gate Chowk, a seemingly ordinary dinner at Meera Restaurant in Udaipur spiralled into a heated confrontation that now has both sides filing police complaints. The man at the centre of the drama, 35‑year‑old Jayesh Patel from Ahmedabad, says he discovered a cockroach in the dish his family ordered.

Patel recalls raising his voice, asking the staff to explain. According to him, the conversation quickly turned sour, and before he knew it, several restaurant employees were shoving him. He walked away with bruises on his face and head and was rushed to Maharana Bhupal Hospital for treatment.

Footage that has been shared widely on social media shows a police officer standing nearby, seemingly watching the exchange but not stepping in. The clip has added fuel to an already tense debate about who, if anyone, crossed the line.

Manoj, the owner of Meera Restaurant, disputes Patel’s version of events. He insists the item found in the food was not a cockroach at all, but a large piece of cardamom that somehow ended up in the dish. "He was heavily intoxicated, disturbing other guests, and kept shouting about a cockroach," Manoj told reporters. "We tried to calm him down, offered to wash the alleged object and show it to the family, but he refused, saying we were trying to destroy evidence."

The Dhanmandi police station’s SHO, Gajveer Singh, confirmed that both parties have lodged FIRs against each other. According to the police, after the argument escalated, the staff attempted to restrain Patel, leading to a physical scuffle. Investigators are now piecing together the sequence of events, reviewing CCTV footage, and speaking to witnesses to determine who bears responsibility.

While the incident remains under investigation, it highlights the volatility that can arise in crowded eateries when food safety concerns collide with personal tempers. Whether it was a genuine insect, a misplaced spice, or a misunderstanding amplified by alcohol, the story continues to unfold, and the courts will eventually decide whose account holds more weight.
