Two People Detained After Body Discovered in Overturned Trash Can on Houston’s Third Ward

Early Sunday morning, just after midnight, Houston officers responded to a frantic call on Anita Street in the city’s Third Ward. The dispatch reported gunfire and someone attempting to hide a body in a trash receptacle.

When they arrived, they found a lifeless figure slumped inside an overturned trash can parked in the complex’s lot. The scene was unsettling, and detectives could not immediately say whether the victim had been shot, beaten or otherwise harmed.

A thin ribbon of fresh blood trailed away from the can, leading officers down the hallway of a nearby apartment. Inside, a man refused to step out, prompting a patrol support team—essentially a tactical unit—to breach the door with specialized equipment.

Both the man inside and another person in the building were subsequently taken into custody for questioning. Police have not released any names, nor have they identified the deceased at this time.

The discovery happened at about 12:13 a.m. in the 3100 block of Anita Street, roughly three miles south of downtown Houston. Authorities are still piecing together what happened and why the body ended up in a trash can.

As of now, no charges have been filed, and the investigation remains ongoing. Residents in the area have been urged to avoid the vicinity while detectives work through the evidence.
