Two government teachers in Kakinada suspended after sexual‑assault allegations

The District Education Officer of Kakinada, P. Ramesh, announced on September 7 that two government teachers have been put on suspension. The move comes after departmental inquiries found merit in serious complaints lodged by students and their families.

Joga Suresh, who taught physical science at a government high school, is accused of sexually assaulting a girl student sometime before 2025. The victim, according to the report, later took her own life. While the internal inquiry led to Suresh’s suspension effective from September 7, the police have also opened a criminal case relating to the student’s death.

Reddi Srinivas, a physical‑education instructor at a government girls’ high school, faced a fresh allegation when a student came forward with claims of sexual misconduct. The inquiry corroborated enough evidence for the education officer to order Srinivas’s suspension, also effective from September 7.

Both suspensions are provisional, pending the outcome of the legal proceedings. In the meantime, the district police have set up a helpline – 94407‑96513 – for any student or parent who needs assistance, and a dedicated counselling number, Tele‑MANAS, is available at 14416.

The incidents have sparked a broader conversation about safety in schools across Andhra Pradesh. Officials say they are reviewing protocols and will strengthen monitoring mechanisms to ensure that such violations are reported promptly and dealt with firmly.
