Tropical Storm Bertha’s Gulf‑Coast Journey: Updated Forecast and Safety Alerts

Tropical Storm Bertha made its debut late Monday evening just off the Florida Panhandle, and within hours the storm’s trajectory was nudged westward toward the northern Gulf Coast. The National Hurricane Center’s latest advisory paints a picture of a storm that could hug the shoreline, possibly brushing near New Orleans by Wednesday.

Right now, a tropical‑storm watch is in effect from the Ochlockonee River in Florida all the way to the Mississippi‑Alabama border. That means anyone in that stretch should keep a close eye on alerts, as conditions can shift quickly. In addition, a storm‑surge watch covers the Gulf from the Alabama‑Florida line down to the mouth of the Mississippi River. Those low‑lying areas could see water rise above normal levels, especially if the storm’s forward speed slows.
