Traverse City's Annual Holiday Glow-Up: A Magical Evening Awaits!

Ah, Traverse City. There’s just something about it when the holiday season starts to peek its head around the corner, isn't there? Well, get ready to embrace that magical feeling, because our beloved annual Tree Lighting ceremony is officially on the calendar! Mark Saturday, November 22, 2025, from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m., because downtown Traverse City is about to transform into a twinkling wonderland. We're all heading to that familiar spot at the base of the Old Town clock tower, right there at the intersection of Front and Union Streets, to kick off the festive season in style.

Before the big tree truly glows, a dazzling light parade will weave its way through the streets, setting the perfect mood. Imagine vibrant floats, community groups all aglow, and the sheer joy of watching it all unfold. And speaking of joy, you simply can’t have a proper holiday kickoff without the big man himself, right? Santa Claus is set to make his grand entrance, usually arriving right there in the parade, ready to spread cheer and listen to a few early Christmas wishes from the little ones – and maybe even some grown-ups too, let's be honest!

The air will be buzzing with anticipation, a mix of crisp autumn chill and warm holiday spirit, all underscored by some lovely live music. Then comes the moment we’ve all been waiting for: that spectacular flip of the switch, illuminating our magnificent holiday tree and bathing downtown in a truly breathtaking glow. But wait, there’s a sweet new addition this year that’s bound to put even bigger smiles on kids' faces. The Downtown Traverse City Association (DTCA) is introducing a "Treat Patrol"! That’s right, volunteers will be out and about, handing out special goodies to children along the parade route. How cool is that? It’s just another little touch to make the evening even more memorable.
