Tragic Four-Wheeler Crash Claims Life of 14-Year-Old in Monroe County

Early on the morning of July 25, around 5 a.m., police in Monroe County responded to a harrowing scene on Bacon Road, just south of Todd Road in Summerfield Township. A 2007 Honda TRX250, being driven southbound by a 14‑year‑old from Dundee, collided with a 2013 Chevrolet Traverse that was backing out of a private driveway.

According to the sheriff’s preliminary report, a 17‑year‑old from Petersburg was riding as a passenger on the four‑wheeler. The impact struck the passenger side of the Traverse, which was occupied by a 54‑year‑old and a 57‑year‑old, also from Petersburg. Both adults were buckled in, and, despite the severity of the crash, they escaped without injury. The vehicle’s airbags, however, never deployed.

The force of the collision threw both teenagers from the four‑wheeler. Emergency crews pronounced the younger driver dead at the scene. The 17‑year‑old was rushed to Toledo’s Promedica Hospital, where he remains in critical condition.

Deputies Alec Preadmore and Hunter Chirillo of the Traffic Services Division are leading the investigation.
