Tragedy Strikes Thunder Bay: Teen Dies in Highway 102 Crash, Driver Charged

A pall of grief has fallen over the Thunder Bay community following a devastating single-vehicle collision on Highway 102 early Sunday morning that claimed the life of a 16-year-old passenger.

The Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to the horrific scene just west of Silver City Road at approximately 1:45 a.m.

Preliminary investigations indicate that a vehicle, carrying four occupants, was involved in the crash. The 16-year-old, whose identity has not been released, was pronounced deceased at the scene, leaving friends, family, and the wider community in profound shock.

Adding to the somber events, two other passengers sustained non-life-threatening injuries and were transported to a local hospital for treatment.

The 17-year-old driver of the vehicle was unharmed but now faces serious charges in connection with the fatal incident.

Following a thorough investigation, the driver has been charged with careless driving causing death, along with two counts of careless driving causing bodily harm. These charges underscore the critical importance of attentive and responsible driving, especially for young motorists.
