Tragedy Strikes Noida: Woman Burned Alive Over Dowry Demands, Family Alleges Persistent Harassment Despite Lavish Gifts

A pall of grief and outrage has descended upon Noida following the horrific death of a 28-year-old woman, Sangeeta, who was allegedly burned alive over dowry demands. Her family, devastated, claims they spared no expense during her wedding, even gifting a top-model car, yet the insatiable demands for dowry ultimately led to her brutal demise.

Sangeeta, a resident of Sector 52, Noida, was married to Mayank from Rohini, Delhi, in December 2022.

Her brother, Kapil Bhati, recounted the painful details, stating, "We fulfilled all their demands. We gave a Hyundai Creta, a top-model car, and all the furniture and dowry items they asked for during the wedding. But their greed never ended."

According to Bhati, the harassment began almost immediately after the wedding.

Sangeeta was frequently beaten and tormented by her husband and in-laws over escalating dowry demands. The family made repeated attempts to resolve the issues, even giving more money in hopes of bringing peace to their daughter's life, but their efforts proved futile.

The family's pleas for an end to the abuse went unheard, culminating in the tragic incident.

They allege that Sangeeta was murdered, set ablaze by her husband and his parents due to their unyielding demands for dowry. The incident has sent shockwaves through the community, highlighting the persistent and deadly scourge of dowry-related violence.

Authorities have taken swift action in response to the heinous crime.

An FIR has been registered against Sangeeta's husband, father-in-law, and mother-in-law under various stringent sections of the Indian Penal Code, including 498A (dowry harassment), 304B (dowry death), and 302 (murder). The police confirmed that the husband has been apprehended, and a manhunt is currently underway to locate and arrest the other accused individuals.

The family, still reeling from the profound loss, awaits justice for Sangeeta, hoping that the perpetrators are brought to book for their unforgivable actions.
