Tragedy Strikes Mumbai: Ganesh Immersion Procession Ends in Fatal Electrocution

A pall of sorrow descended upon Mumbai's Wadala area on Friday night, as a joyous Ganesh idol immersion procession took a tragic turn, resulting in the electrocution of one devotee and injuries to two others. The devastating incident cast a shadow over the festive spirit, highlighting the unforeseen dangers that can sometimes mar communal celebrations.

The ill-fated procession was moving through the streets of Wadala, carrying a Ganesh idol for immersion, a cherished ritual marking the culmination of the Ganesh Chaturthi festival.

As the idol was being maneuvered, it inadvertently came into contact with an overhead electric wire. The sudden surge of electricity ripped through the air, striking three individuals who were part of the procession.

Among those tragically affected was 28-year-old Sachin Gupta, who succumbed to the severe electric shock.

His untimely demise has sent shockwaves through the community, leaving friends and family grappling with profound grief. The two other individuals, identified as Avinash Singh and Bharat Chauhan, sustained injuries in the incident. They were swiftly rushed to KEM Hospital for medical attention. Fortunately, reports indicate that their condition is stable, and they are expected to be discharged soon, a small glimmer of relief amidst the tragedy.

Following the incident, local authorities and police were immediately alerted.

Officials from the Wadala police station arrived at the scene to assess the situation and initiate an investigation. An Accidental Death Report (ADR) has been registered, marking the official start of inquiries into the circumstances that led to this unfortunate event. The investigation will likely focus on understanding how the contact with the live wire occurred and whether any safety protocols were breached.
