Tragedy Strikes: BBA Student’s Suicide Sparks Harassment Allegations Against Seniors

Bengaluru is reeling from the heartbreaking news of R. Harsha, a first-year BBA student, who tragically died by suicide. The incident, which occurred on November 20, has ignited a serious investigation, with Harsha's father vehemently accusing four senior students of relentless harassment and abetment to his son's death.

Harsha, a student at KLE College, was found dead at his home, leaving his family and community in shock.

His father, R. Ramesh, has lodged a formal complaint at the Jnanabharathi police station, naming Balamurugan, Vighnesh, Sujay, and Shravan Kumar as the alleged perpetrators. The complaint details a disturbing pattern of intimidation and exploitation.

According to Ramesh, these senior students subjected Harsha to constant harassment, demanding money and threatening him with severe consequences if he failed to comply.

The threats were not limited to physical harm; the seniors allegedly warned Harsha they would file false police complaints against him and tarnish his reputation, plunging him into a state of profound distress.

The family observed a significant shift in Harsha's behavior in the days leading up to the tragedy.

He became increasingly withdrawn, isolating himself from family interactions and exhibiting a clear reluctance to attend college. This change was a stark contrast to his usual demeanor, raising concerns among his loved ones.

A particularly distressing incident occurred on November 17. Harsha returned home from college visibly upset and distressed, recounting to his family that he had been involved in a physical altercation with the accused seniors.

This event appears to have been a critical turning point, exacerbating his mental anguish.

Following the complaint, the Jnanabharathi police have registered a case under Indian Penal Code (IPC) Section 306 (abetment to suicide) and Section 34 (acts done by several persons in furtherance of common intention).

The authorities have initiated a thorough investigation to ascertain the full extent of the allegations and bring any responsible parties to justice. This tragic incident underscores the critical need for robust anti-ragging measures and vigilant support systems within educational institutions to safeguard student well-being.
