Tragedy Strikes Alaska's Mendenhall Glacier: Two Tourists Found Deceased

A tragic turn of events has cast a pall over Alaska's majestic Mendenhall Glacier, a renowned natural wonder near Juneau. The individuals have been identified as 35-year-old Andrew McAuley of South Salem, New York, and 31-year-old Becca Hueffmeier from St.

Louis, Missouri. Both were reportedly part of the same tour group visiting the glacier on Friday, June 21st, and were last seen that day. Concerns escalated when they were reported missing on Saturday morning, triggering an immediate and extensive search operation.

The multi-agency effort involved dedicated teams from Juneau Mountain Rescue, the Alaska State Troopers, the Juneau Police Department, and the U.S.

The first heartbreaking discovery occurred on Sunday when search teams located the body of Andrew McAuley in a lake nestled beneath the sprawling glacier.
