Tragedy in Uttar Pradesh: Pregnant Mother Slain Before Her Children’s Eyes

What should have been a quiet evening in the tiny hamlet of Bijrari, near Mahoba’s Panwari police outpost, turned into a nightmare no one will ever forget. According to local authorities, Hanif Mansoori, an alcohol‑dependent farmer, came home heavily intoxicated on a Saturday night and got into a heated argument with his wife, Manisha.

Manisha, eight months pregnant, tried desperately to dissuade her husband from drinking again – a plea that, as the police report says, only inflamed Mansoor’s rage. In a fit of fury, he allegedly seized a farming sickle and began striking his wife repeatedly. The blade cut deep, striking her body, head and hands, before she collapsed.

The horror didn’t end there. Their two little ones – a five‑year‑old boy and a two‑year‑old girl – were in the same room, eyes wide with terror as the brutal scene unfolded. The boy, later identified as the key eyewitness, managed to recount what he saw despite his shock.

When the police arrived, Mansoori reportedly tried to spin a story, calling his own relatives and claiming an accident. The investigators, however, were not convinced. Panwari Station House Officer Praveen Kumar questioned the suspect and, based on the child’s detailed testimony, placed him under arrest.

Manisha’s body has now been sent for a post‑mortem examination. Neighbours say Mansoori had been selling off much of his land to fund his drinking and gambling habits, leaving the family financially strained. Her brother, Naseem Mansoori, disclosed that the couple had a history of domestic clashes. “He would throw her out of the house over trivial matters,” he said, “but she always came back, hoping to keep the family together.”

Manisha’s brother‑in‑law, Shakir, added that several attempts were made by relatives to counsel the husband, all to no avail. The tragedy has sent shockwaves through the community, sparking conversations about domestic violence, addiction, and the fragile safety of women in rural India.

Authorities have urged anyone aware of similar abuse to come forward, emphasizing that early intervention could prevent such irreversible loss. Meanwhile, the case continues to be investigated, and Mansoori remains in police custody awaiting further legal action.
