Torrential Rains Grip Karnataka: Red Alert Issued as Rivers Swell, Disrupting Life Across the State

Karnataka is currently in the grip of an intense monsoon, witnessing relentless downpours that have led to widespread disruption and concern. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has sounded a critical "red alert" for six districts, highlighting the severity of the situation and prompting authorities to initiate swift response measures.

The districts under the red alert include Chikkamagaluru, Kodagu, Hassan, Shivamogga, Udupi, and Dakshina Kannada, all bracing for extremely heavy rainfall.

Additionally, an "orange alert" has been issued for Uttara Kannada, Davangere, Chitradurga, Tumakuru, and Chikkaballapura, indicating the potential for heavy to very heavy rainfall. This comprehensive warning underscores the extensive reach of the current weather phenomenon across the state.

Bidar district, in particular, has been severely affected, experiencing significant flooding as major rivers like Godavari, Bhima, and Karanja have burst their banks.

The sheer volume of water has led to several bridges being completely submerged, effectively cutting off connectivity to numerous villages and leaving residents isolated. Heart-wrenching reports have emerged of floodwaters entering homes in low-lying areas, forcing families to abandon their belongings and seek safer ground.

The Chief Minister of Karnataka, Siddaramaiah, has personally taken charge, convening emergency meetings with district in-charge ministers and senior officials to assess the evolving situation.
