Time Over Gifts: Tata Tea Gold Reveals What Durga Pujo Families Really Want

7 in 10 Prefer Moments with Loved Ones Over Festive Presents, Says Tata Tea Gold Study

A fresh Tata Tea Gold survey in West Bengal shows that most young adults would rather spend quality time with family during Durga Pujo than receive a fancy gift or voucher.

When the lamps are lit and the streets hum with chants, the most coveted present this Durga Pujo isn’t tucked inside a shiny box – it’s a little extra time with the people who matter most.

In a study commissioned by Tata Tea Gold and carried out by research house Unomer across West Bengal, 68% of respondents aged 25‑40 said they would gladly trade a premium festive gift or a shopping voucher for a simple moment: sharing tea and conversation with their loved ones.

The sentiment runs deep. A striking 83% confessed that, year after year, Pujo seems to sprint by before they’ve managed to enjoy enough family time. It’s a feeling many can relate to – the festival feels too short, the gatherings too rushed.

Tea, however, offers a natural pause button. According to the survey, a solid 94% of participants believe a cup of cha gives families a reason to stop, sit down, and linger a little longer in each other’s company.

Inspired by these insights, Tata Tea Gold rolled out its Durga Pujo campaign “Ekshathei Gold – Being Together is Gold”. The idea is simple yet powerful: when together‑time feels scarce, every additional moment becomes priceless.

The campaign’s television commercial follows a mother and her son at two points in life. As a child, the boy wishes Pujo would never end so his mother can stay home longer. Years later, now an adult, he harbors the same wish – a gentle reminder that the desire for more shared minutes never really fades.

In both scenes, a steaming cup of Tata Tea Gold is the quiet catalyst – one more sip, one more chat, one more heartbeat together.

“Pujo gives us countless reasons to gather, but often not enough time to simply be together,” says Sharat Verma, President of Packaged Beverages at Tata Consumer Products. “A cup of tea creates that small pause – a moment to sit, talk, and stay a little longer with someone you love. With ‘Ekshathei Gold’, we celebrate these ordinary, yet treasured, moments.”

Sandipan Bhattacharyya, Chief Creative Officer at Monks, adds, “We wanted to elevate an everyday cup of tea into a reminder of what truly matters: slow, shared moments. For a generation obsessed with material gifting, the campaign whispers that our presence is the ultimate present.”

The brand’s distinctive blend – rich leaf tea with a smooth finish – turns a routine brew into a little ceremony, a subtle invitation to reconnect.

To bring the narrative home, Tata Tea Gold introduced four specially designed packs, each depicting a classic Pujo scene – the rhythmic dhunuchi dance, the playful sindoor khela, intimate family prayers, and other cherished rituals. The packaging itself becomes a visual cue to pause and share.

Through “Ekshathei Gold – Being Together is Gold”, the message is clear: this Pujo, brew one more cup, start one more conversation, and let the clock linger just a little longer. Because, after all, time together truly is gold.
