The Untold Story of Archana Puran Singh’s First Marriage

Archana Puran Singh is best known today for her sharp wit on comedy shows and her long‑standing partnership with actor‑director Parmeet Sethi. What many fans forget, however, is that her love story began long before the 1992 wedding.

In the mid‑1980s, Archana married Gurinder Singh, a Delhi‑born model who worked under the name Sunny Reyon in advertising circles. The two met at a fashion event, and the chemistry that sparked on the runway quickly turned romantic. Their wedding was a modest affair, held away from the limelight, and for a brief spell they seemed to enjoy a quiet domestic life.

Unfortunately, the marriage did not survive the pressures of the industry. Sources close to the couple say that conflicting schedules, along with differing expectations of a married life, led to growing tension. After a few years together, Archana and Gurinder decided to part ways. The divorce was amicable, though it left Archana wary of love for a time.

Tragedy struck in 1991, a year after the separation. According to several biographies, Gurinder Singh died on Diwali after accidentally discharging a firearm at his home. The incident was ruled an accidental shooting, but the sudden loss added a layer of sorrow to an already painful chapter of Archana’s life.

When asked about the experience in an interview with ETimes, Archana confessed, “After my previous failed marriage, I never wanted to have another man in my life. But with Parmeet, I realised that men can be gentle, loving and sensitive, and not all of them are violent or possessive.” Her words hint at the emotional scars left by Gurinder’s death and the eventual healing she found with Parmeet.

Archana’s path crossed with Parmeet Sethi at a mutual friend’s party in the early 1990s. What started as a friendly chat soon blossomed into a live‑in relationship, and the couple quietly tied the knot on 30 June 1992. Their marriage was initially kept low‑key, partly due to resistance from Parmeet’s family and Archana’s desire to avoid media frenzy.

The duo later welcomed two sons, Aaryamann and Ayushmaan, and have remained one of Bollywood’s most stable pairs. While Archana’s career took off with films like Jalwa (1987), Agneepath, and iconic TV shows such as Shrimaan Shrimati and The Kapil Sharma Show, Parmeet made his mark with the memorable role of Kuljeet Singh in Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge (1995) and later ventured into direction with Badmaash Company (2010).

Today, Archana occasionally reflects on her early marriage, not with bitterness but with a quiet gratitude for the lessons it taught her about love, resilience, and the importance of choosing a partner who respects and cherishes her.
