Well, for the first round of the 2024 NFL Draft, the numbers are in, and they're pretty staggering, honestly.

On Thursday, April 25th, an incredible 120,000 people showed up in downtown Detroit, ready to cheer, speculate, and simply soak in the atmosphere. That’s just for day one! Think about that for a moment – over a hundred thousand passionate fans, all gathered in one spot, celebrating their shared love for the game and the hopeful future of their favorite teams. It’s truly something else to witness; the energy is infectious.

And speaking of numbers, the host city is actually hoping for an even bigger splash over the entire three-day event, with projections suggesting anywhere from 300,000 to a whopping 400,000 attendees in total. To put that into perspective, last year’s Draft in Kansas City drew an impressive 312,000 folks over the full weekend. So, Detroit is certainly on track to, shall we say, smash some records. And among them, with a very keen eye on the future, is our very own Pittsburgh. Yes, you heard that right! The Steel City is firmly in the running, a finalist actually, to host the NFL Draft in either 2026 or 2027. Imagine the roar of the crowd right here in the 'Burgh!

Mayor Ed Gainey has been quite vocal about Pittsburgh’s readiness, and frankly, why shouldn't he be? He's confident the city has what it takes, pointing to our rich history of successfully hosting major sporting events and large-scale gatherings. We’ve certainly proven our capability time and time again. Think about it: a city steeped in football tradition, with some of the most dedicated fans you’ll ever meet, all centered around a walkable downtown and iconic riverfronts. It really does sound like a perfect match, doesn't it?

The sheer scale of attendance witnessed in Detroit just goes to show the incredible drawing power of the NFL Draft.
