The whole terrifying ordeal kicked off around 11 AM. What began as a protest against the local police's alleged foot-dragging in finding a missing 17-year-old girl quickly escalated. Villagers, convinced that a family residing in the area was somehow shielding the alleged perpetrator – a relative, they believed – took matters into their own hands. They surrounded the house, refusing to let the family, including parents and their young child, leave. One can only imagine the desperate pleas and the palpable fear inside that home as the hours ticked by.

The situation was undeniably tense. For a significant chunk of the day, from morning until well into the evening, the family remained captive. The police, of course, were alerted, but navigating such a volatile crowd, brimming with anger and frustration, is no easy task. It speaks volumes about the pressure cooker environment that had developed. Finally, after seven long hours, around 6 PM, law enforcement decided it was time to make a decisive move.

A substantial police contingent, including the Rapid Action Force (RAF) and various combat units, was deployed. It wasn't a gentle dispersal; they had to employ tear gas and resort to lathi-charge (baton charges) to break up the agitated crowd and ensure the family's safety.
