This year, the chosen one is an absolute stunner: an 80-foot Norway spruce, a real majestic giant, weighing in at around 12 tons and stretching an impressive 43 feet wide. And now, Shelby, this tree that was once just a part of their backyard, is poised to become a global icon, adorned with more than 50,000 multi-colored LED lights and topped with that dazzling Swarovski star. After its moment in the dazzling spotlight, after all the lights come down and the crowds disperse, what happens to Shelby? Well, it won’t just disappear. In a beautiful gesture that extends its life and legacy, the tree will be milled into lumber and donated to Habitat for Humanity. So, yes, from a family's backyard to the world stage, and then on to help build homes for those in need — quite the journey for a tree, indeed.
