William Andrew Denney, a 36-year-old from Bakersfield, was simply driving his Nissan Frontier pickup when, in an instant, everything changed.

And yet, for days, the driver responsible for this horrific collision was nowhere to be found. The notion, honestly, of striking another vehicle with such force, causing such devastation, and then simply fleeing the scene... well, it’s hard to fathom. But that's exactly what authorities allege happened that night, leaving Mr. Denney to perish there on the freeway, his world tragically cut short.

The California Highway Patrol, true to their diligent nature, wasted no time. Officer Josh Greengard, a spokesman for the CHP Newhall Area Office, confirmed that a focused investigation quickly began to piece together the fragmented moments of November 10th. They were looking for a ghost, you could say, a driver who had vanished into the night after, it's claimed, causing a fatal crash.

The details, as they emerged, paint a stark picture. Mr. Denney, in his 2017 Nissan, was reportedly in the second lane of the northbound I-5 when a 2018 Ford F-150 pickup, driven by Luis Armando Garcia, 28, of Wasco, slammed into him from behind. The impact, according to CHP, was enough to send Denney’s vehicle careening into the center guardrail, then overturning, ultimately coming to rest in the middle of two lanes. It's a truly harrowing scenario, isn't it?

But the pursuit, thankfully, bore fruit. On Friday morning, just days after the crash, CHP officers tracked down and arrested Garcia in Wasco. He now faces some very serious accusations: felony hit-and-run and, perhaps even more gravely, gross vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated. Bail has been set at a substantial $100,000, and Garcia is currently being held at the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station.
