Television Actress Antara Banerjee Arrested After Wild Train Altercation

A shocking incident unfolded recently on the Aravali Express, leading to the arrest of television actress and model Antara Banerjee. What began as a dispute over a train seat quickly escalated into a chaotic scene, with Banerjee allegedly attacking Railway Protection Force (RPF) personnel, reportedly even using a razor blade.

The drama reportedly played out on August 12, as the Bandra-Ganganagar Aravali Express journeyed between Borivali and Dahanu. Banerjee, who was on her way to Surat for a shoot, apparently held a sleeper-class ticket but was reportedly occupying a seat in an AC coach. This, as you might imagine, became a point of contention with the RPF officials on duty.

According to initial reports from the police, things took a dramatic turn when RPF Assistant Sub-Inspector Yaminikant Mishra and Constable Rajesh Kumar, along with Ticket Collector Harikesh Tripathi, approached Banerjee about the seating issue. She allegedly refused to vacate the reserved seat, leading to a heated argument. The situation spiraled, with allegations suggesting she not only verbally abused the RPF personnel but also resorted to physical assault.

The accusations are quite grave: Banerjee allegedly undressed partially during the altercation and attacked ASI Yaminikant Mishra with a razor blade, causing injuries. Furthermore, she's accused of damaging his uniform, mobile phone, and even his spectacles. In a desperate attempt to escape the situation, she reportedly tried to break a glass panel. Witnesses on the scene indicated that the actress seemed visibly distressed, possibly due to not securing an AC coach ticket.

Following the tumultuous incident, Antara Banerjee was deboarded at Dahanu railway station. She was subsequently taken into custody by the Borivali railway police the following morning, August 13. A First Information Report (FIR) was registered against her at the Borivali Government Railway Police (GRP) station. Borivali GRP Inspector Kunda Gavade confirmed the registration of the case.

The charges against Banerjee are serious, falling under various provisions for offenses including assault on public servants, causing harm, endangering safety, and intentional insult. Interestingly, during her detention, she reportedly refused to contact her relatives or seek legal assistance, demanding instead to be arrested. She was later briefly detained and then released after being served a notice under the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita, or released on bail, as legal proceedings continue to unfold.
