Telangana Boosts Vemulawada Temple Renovation with Fresh ₹99.40 Crore

The centuries‑old Sri Raja Rajeshwara Swamy temple in Vemulawada, often fondly called ‘Dakshin Kashi’, is about to get a substantial financial lift. On July 25, the Telangana state cabinet approved an extra ₹99.40 crore for its ongoing expansion and restoration works.

To put this in perspective, the temple’s development programme was initially budgeted at ₹150 crore. Earlier, the government had set aside ₹50 crore in the 2023‑24 budget and another ₹100 crore in the 2024‑25 budget. With the latest tranche, the cumulative sanction now stands at a whopping ₹249 crore.

According to sources at the devasthanam, the construction and renovation activities are progressing, with roughly 45 percent of the planned work already completed. The fresh funds are expected to accelerate the remaining tasks – from structural reinforcement to beautification of the surrounding precincts.

Local devotees and officials alike welcomed the announcement, seeing it as a reaffirmation of the state’s commitment to preserving the region’s cultural heritage. The temple, nestled in the Rajanna Sircilla district of Telangana, attracts pilgrims from across the state and beyond, making its upkeep a matter of both religious and tourism significance.
