Target announces eight new store openings across six states, creating more than 2,000 jobs as part of its $5 billion 2026 investment plan.
Target is set to roll out eight new locations this autumn in Mississippi, New York, Ohio, Tennessee, Texas, and Virginia, boosting its 2026 store count to 32 and adding over 2,000 jobs.
Target Corp. is gearing up for a busy autumn. Eight brand‑new stores will swing open their doors between October and November, pushing the retailer’s 2026 openings to a total of 32.
The new sites span six states – Mississippi, New York, Ohio, Tennessee, Texas and Virginia – and are part of a broader ambition to launch more than 300 stores by 2035.
All of this fits inside Target’s $5 billion capital‑investment plan for 2026, a budget that also funds more than 130 store remodels, higher pay for associates and expanded training programs. “These new stores represent our continued investment in the places our guests live, work and shop,” said Laurie Mahowald, senior vice president of Target Properties, in a recent interview.
According to the company, the eight locations will create upwards of 2,000 jobs. Starting wages will range from $15 to $24 an hour, and employees will receive benefits plus tuition‑free education assistance. Chief Stores Officer Adrienne Costanzo added, “Our commitment to opening new stores is really about showing up for our guests and our communities – and it starts with our incredible store team members.”
Seven of the eight stores are slated to be larger than Target’s average 125,000‑square‑foot footprint, underscoring the retailer’s push toward bigger‑format formats. The openings are scheduled for Oct. 11, with the Lima, Ohio store delayed until Nov. 8.
Costanzo summed up the strategy: “These new stores give our teams the tools and environments to bring our merchandising strengths to life, create easier and more inspiring shopping experiences, and use technology to move smarter and faster every day.”
