Tamil Actor Arya Faces Cheating Charges in Hyderabad Over ₹1.80 Crore Equipment Rental Dispute

Hyderabad police on Thursday lodged a cheating complaint against popular Tamil actor Arya, alleging that he defaulted on equipment‑rental charges amounting to around ₹1.80 crore. The case stems from a dispute with a local film‑equipment firm that says the actor’s team failed to clear the dues even after repeated reminders.

According to the police report, the firm had supplied high‑end cameras, lighting kits and other technical gear for a shoot that was supposed to take place earlier this year. When the equipment was returned, the firm claimed that a massive balance remained unpaid. After attempts to resolve the issue amicably fell flat, they approached the authorities, prompting a formal complaint.

Arya’s representatives, however, have pushed back. In a brief statement to the media, they described the allegation as a “misunderstanding” and assured that Arya would cooperate fully with the investigation. “We are looking into the matter and will clear any legitimate dues at the earliest,” the spokesperson said, adding that no criminal intent was involved.

Legal experts note that cheating charges under Section 420 of the Indian Penal Code are serious, carrying potential imprisonment of up to seven years and hefty fines. Yet, they also point out that many such cases in the film industry revolve around contractual ambiguities and delayed payments, often settled out of court.

The incident has reignited talk about the financial entanglements that actors and production houses sometimes face when dealing with third‑party service providers. While Arya’s fan base has largely expressed support, urging patience until the facts emerge, critics argue that high‑profile personalities should be more diligent in honoring commercial commitments.
