Suffolk Police Respond to Bellport High School for Third Time This Week

On Friday morning, just after 7:45 a.m., Suffolk police officers once again found themselves at Bellport High School – the third visit in as many days since students returned to class. This time the call was for a verbal altercation, and, as far as officials can say, it ended without any arrests.

The first encounter of the week happened on September 10, just before 11 a.m., when deputies were summoned for what the department described as a "domestic incident." An arrest was made, but the details remain under wraps because the individual involved is a minor.

Then, on September 11, officers were called back for a "non‑criminal incident." The report didn’t spell out what happened, but police confirmed it didn’t rise to the level of a crime.

All of this has rattled parents and community members. During a South Country Board of Education meeting, several voiced worries about student safety, echoing a broader conversation that’s been buzzing around the district.

Interim Superintendent John Dolan tried to reassure the crowd, reminding everyone that schools have to balance reacting to misbehavior with protecting students’ rights. "Children make mistakes. Our job is to try and fix them," he said, adding that due process will be followed for anyone facing charges.

While the police logs show the three separate calls, they also underscore a reality many schools face: navigating the line between everyday teenage drama and incidents that require law‑enforcement intervention. For now, the district says it will keep monitoring the situation closely, hoping the next week will be calmer.
