Sudivya Kumar, Senior JMM Leader and Jharkhand Minister, Passes Away at 56

Sudivya Kumar, a name that has been synonymous with Jharkhand’s political landscape for decades, breathed his last on the night of September 5, 2026, after suffering a sudden cardiac arrest. He was 56 years old.

The Chief Minister, Hemant Soren, announced the tragic news on his X account, describing Kumar not just as a colleague but as an “elder brother” whose sudden departure has left a void that words cannot fill.

Kumar was serving as the Minister for Higher and Technical Education, Urban Development, Tourism, Arts & Culture, and Sports & Youth Affairs at the time of his death. A two‑term MLA from the Giridih constituency, he had been a key figure in the Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) and had played a significant role in the state’s push for identity and rights since the early days of the Jharkhand movement.

In his heartfelt post, Soren recalled how Kumar stood beside the late Baba Dishom Guruji during the formative years of the Jharkhand struggle. “He devoted his entire life to the fight for Jharkhand’s identity, rights, and pride,” the chief minister wrote, adding that Kumar’s “indomitable spirit will always be remembered.”

The governor, Santosh Gangwar, also expressed his condolences, joining the chorus of grief that swept through the state’s political circles. Both the chief minister and the governor declared two days of official mourning, and a state funeral has been scheduled for 3:30 p.m. today at the Usri River‑Harsinghraydih cremation ground in Giridih district.
