Stratford Remembers: Honoring Lives Recently Lost in Our Community

It's with a touch of melancholy, yet a deep sense of respect, that we pause to acknowledge the recent departures of several cherished members of our Stratford community. Between late June and mid-July of 2026, our town bid farewell to a diverse group of individuals whose lives, in their own unique ways, enriched the fabric of Stratford. Let’s take a moment to reflect on their journeys and the lasting impact they've left behind.

On June 29th, at the age of 91, we said goodbye to Kenneth W. Palazzo. Kenneth was truly a man of service and community. A proud veteran of the U.S. Army, he dedicated a significant portion of his professional life to SNET before gracefully retiring. Beyond his work, many will remember him as the past president of the Lordship Fathers' Club, a testament to his commitment to family and local engagement. He certainly lived a full and meaningful life.

The community also mourned the passing of Linda Ann (Reynolds) Swift, who left us on July 8th at the age of 68. Linda was a dedicated professional, known for her expertise as a Human Resources Business Partner with Canon USA. Her contributions in the corporate world surely touched many colleagues, and her memory will undoubtedly be cherished by those who worked alongside her and loved her.

Just a few days later, on July 13th, Robert (Bob) John Cascone passed away at 88 years young. Bob was a true craftsman, celebrated as a master tile artisan whose work surely graced many homes and businesses. Beyond his trade, he was a man of diverse interests, actively involved in the Bridgeport Gun Club as a coach, and a keen participant in the Stratford Gun Collectors. His community spirit extended to Masonic organizations, the Shriners Motor Patrol, and the Shriners Transportation Group, showing a lifetime of dedication and camaraderie.

On July 16th, Stratford lost a dedicated healer, Dr. John W. Kirkland, at the age of 80. Dr. Kirkland was a respected physician who maintained a private practice right here in Stratford, and also served at Bridgeport Hospital, tending to countless patients over the years. His commitment to others wasn't limited to his practice; he was a devoted volunteer with Americares. Beyond his professional life, he was a true Renaissance man – an All-American collegiate swimmer, an expert skier and instructor, and an avid scuba diver. What an adventurous spirit!

The community also felt a deep sorrow with the untimely passing of Joseph Mark Ambrose Jr. on July 19th. At just 32 years old, Joseph was a lifelong area resident, a proud graduate of Bunnell High School’s Class of 2011, and had been working with Edgewell-Schick. His sudden departure is a poignant reminder of the preciousness of every life, and he will be dearly missed by his family, friends, and all who knew him.

Finally, we note the passing of Carl Albert Selvaggi Jr. on July 22nd, at the age of 69. Carl was a familiar name to many, as the proprietor of Carl's Monument and Barre Granite Monument Works. His work helped families commemorate their loved ones, a service of quiet importance. He was also an active member of the East End Yacht Club and the Miamogue Yacht Club, where he undoubtedly shared many good times and forged lasting friendships.

Each of these individuals contributed to the rich tapestry that is Stratford. As we remember them, we extend our deepest sympathies to their families and friends during this difficult time. Their stories, their contributions, and their spirits will certainly live on in the memories of our community.
