Stolen Police Cruiser Plows Through Dayton Home, Leaving Several Injured

It was just past eleven on Thursday night when the calm of West Third Street in Dayton was shattered by a screech of tires and a guttural crash. Officers responding to a report of a vehicle accident at the Shell station on West Third found themselves in a far stranger situation: one of their own cruisers had been taken.

According to a Montgomery County Regional Dispatch supervisor, an officer’s cruiser was stolen while they were on the scene. The suspect, whose identity has not yet been released, quickly sped away, prompting a county‑wide “Signal 99” call for assistance – a request that was later withdrawn when the drama unfolded.

The stolen cruiser barreled down Greenway Street and slammed straight through a house in the 2400 block. When the police arrived, the vehicle was literally sticking out of the back of the home, its front end embedded in the front wall and the rear protruding into the yard.

Inside, a family of two and their dog were caught off‑guard. The impact knocked them to the floor, but, miraculously, none of the injuries were life‑threatening. All three were rushed to a nearby hospital for treatment and later released.

Police officers who tried to subdue the suspect weren’t unscathed either. In the ensuing scuffle, several officers sustained minor injuries – bruises, scrapes and a few sprains – but none required anything beyond basic medical care.

The suspect himself was also taken to the hospital, his condition listed as non‑critical. He is now in custody, and detectives are piecing together how he managed to walk off with a police vehicle in the first place.

City officials have promised a thorough investigation, emphasizing that this incident is being treated with the utmost seriousness. Meanwhile, neighbors on Greenway Street are left shaken, reminded that even a quiet suburban night can turn chaotic in an instant.
