SpiceJet Passengers Stage Protest at Delhi Airport Over Dubai Flight Delays

On Tuesday morning, the bustling corridors of Delhi’s Terminal 3 became the scene of an unexpected demonstration. About two hundred passengers, all booked on SpiceJet’s flights to Dubai, found themselves stuck in a limbo that stretched well beyond the scheduled departure times.

The two services in question – flight SG 5111, slated for the early hours, and SG 5105, planned for the evening – had been shuffled around multiple times since Monday. Travelers reported cramped waiting areas, a lack of clear communication, and mounting anxiety as the hours ticked by.

Frustrated, a sizable group decided to voice their grievances publicly. With signs, chants, and a palpable sense of impatience, they gathered near the check‑in counters, demanding answers and faster resolutions. Airport officials, caught off guard, began liaising with SpiceJet’s senior managers to calm the situation.

SpiceJet soon issued an apology, attributing the setbacks to “operational reasons” following the sudden grounding of an aircraft. In a statement released later that day, the airline promised alternative travel arrangements for affected passengers and assured that the airline was working round‑the‑clock to get the flights back on schedule.

The incident arrives at a delicate time for the carrier. Over the past months, SpiceJet has been grappling with a mix of financial strain and operational hiccups. Civil Aviation Minister K. Rammohan Naidu told PTI that both the ministry and the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) are keeping a close watch on the airline’s finances and day‑to‑day functioning.

For the stranded travelers, the protest was more than a momentary outburst – it highlighted a growing unease among flyers who rely on timely service. While some passengers secured re‑bookings on later SpiceJet flights, others opted for alternative airlines, hoping to reach Dubai before their commitments there.

As the sun set over the Delhi runway, the atmosphere remained tense but hopeful. Airline officials pledged to keep passengers informed, and airport staff worked to restore a semblance of normalcy to the terminal’s usual rhythm.
