Sonam Wangchuk’s Health Stable, Remains Under Hospital Observation

Sonam Wangchuk, the climate activist who has been fasting at Jantar Mantar to protest the NEET exam paper leak, is now reported to be in a stable condition. He is being looked after at Vardhman Mahavir Medical College (VMMC) and Safdarjung Hospital in Delhi.

According to the latest health bulletin released on Monday, his vital signs are within normal ranges. Doctors noted that while his blood‑sugar levels are on the lower side, other parameters have improved after he was given oral rehydration solution and potassium syrup. It sounds like a small victory after days of dehydration, but the medical team says the observation will continue.

A multidisciplinary panel – specialists from the hospital and consultants from AIIMS New Delhi – is keeping a close eye on him. They say the goal is to monitor him for any early signs of complications that could arise from mild to moderate dehydration. In short, they’re not taking any chances.

The hospital authorities assured that all necessary care is being provided. Future treatment steps will be decided based on how he continues to respond and the results of ongoing lab tests, according to the Head of the Department of Medicine at VMMC and Safdarjung.

Wangchuk was admitted on July 18 after his health began to waver during the hunger strike. The strike itself is tied to a massive uproar over a leaked NEET examination paper, which many claim has cost the lives of more than 20 aspirants. The activist’s demand is clear: Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan should step down.

Adding another layer to the drama, a delegation from the Cockroach Janata Party (CJP) met Union Health Minister JP Nadda today. The CJP, a rather flamboyantly named group, presented three demands: the immediate release of Sonam Wangchuk, the resignation of Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan (or his removal from the cabinet), and a compensation package of Rs 1 crore for the families of the deceased NEET candidates.

During the meeting, which Nadda described as “cordial,” the minister noted that, for the first time, the protesters had suggested a dialogue with the government. He said the discussion started around 11:50 am and a written petition was handed over at about 4 pm. Nadda then appealed to the protesters to end the sit‑in and help restore normalcy.

Meanwhile, CJP spokesperson Saurav Das reiterated that the protest will go on until the minister quits. “We have met JP Nadda twice and made our three demands crystal clear,” Das told ANI. “First, release Sonam Wangchuk immediately. Second, Dharmendra Pradhan must resign. Third, Rs 1 crore compensation for the families of the NEET aspirants who lost their lives.”

The situation remains fluid. While Wangchuk’s health seems to be holding steady, the political pressure cooker is anything but calm. Both the medical team and the protestors are watching each other's moves closely, and the next few days could prove decisive for the ongoing NEET controversy.
