So far, the scheme is live at 1,818 locations across Bengaluru Rural district. Early numbers are already encouraging: electricity consumption dropped by a striking 42% in Hoskote and by 27% in Devanahalli. Those figures give the department confidence that the broader goal – a minimum 17% cut across all 4,150 rural water‑supply installations – is well within reach.

What does the technology actually do? Each overhead tank gets a small solar panel, a communication module and a level‑sensor. Out of the roughly 660 tanks that need the full kit, about 100 have already been fitted. The rest will follow as the project scales up. The whole venture is being run under a public‑private partnership with Nsoft India Services Private Limited. The quirky part? Nsoft gets paid only when the energy‑saving targets are hit – a performance‑based model that aligns money with results.

By slashing those bills, the pilot not only lightens the financial load but also promises a steadier, more reliable water supply for villagers who depend on these schemes daily.
