Shockwaves in Bengaluru Police: Two Officers Suspended Amid Damning Corruption Allegations

Bengaluru’s police force has been rocked by serious allegations of corruption, leading to the immediate suspension of two sub-inspectors from the Byatarayanapura police station. The action, taken by Bengaluru Police Commissioner B Dayananda, underscores a firm stance against malpractice within the department.

The suspended officers, PSI Halesh and PSI Harish, stand accused of a grave breach of public trust: demanding a hefty bribe from an individual apprehended in connection with a theft case.

This incident has cast a spotlight on the critical issue of accountability within law enforcement agencies.

The case originated from a theft in Doddaballapur, where an individual identified as Sandeep was involved. He allegedly stole a car and a significant sum of cash. Following the theft, Sandeep was also involved in a road accident, which ultimately led to his apprehension by the Byatarayanapura police.

Upon taking Sandeep into custody, the two sub-inspectors reportedly saw an opportunity for illicit gain.

They allegedly demanded a staggering sum of five lakh rupees from him, promising to release him from custody and drop the charges in exchange for the payment. This brazen act of corruption did not go unnoticed.

Sandeep's family, distraught by the officers' demands, bravely lodged a formal complaint against PSI Halesh and PSI Harish.

The complaint swiftly reached the higher echelons of the police department, triggering an internal investigation.

DCP North Shashi Kumar was tasked with leading the internal inquiry. His investigation delved deep into the allegations, meticulously gathering evidence and statements related to the bribery claim.

The findings of this inquiry were conclusive and damning, confirming the misconduct of the two officers.

Based on the compelling evidence presented in the inquiry report, Bengaluru Police Commissioner B Dayananda wasted no time in asserting his authority and commitment to maintaining the integrity of the force.

Both PSI Halesh and PSI Harish were suspended with immediate effect, sending a clear message that corruption will not be tolerated within the Bengaluru Police Department. This decisive action reaffirms the police's dedication to upholding justice and serving the public without compromise.
