Shirley Street Fight Turns Violent: 25‑Year‑Old Stabs 51‑Year‑Old Victim

On Sunday afternoon, just before 3 p.m., a quarrel on West Parkview Drive in Shirley erupted into a brutal stabbing. Police say 25‑year‑old Anthony Thompson, who had been arguing with the other man, drew a knife and thrust it into the victim, a 51‑year‑old local resident.

The injured man was rushed to NYU Langone Hospital – Suffolk in East Patchogue by private vehicle. Hospital staff reported that his injuries were serious, but he survived the attack.

Detectives quickly arrested Thompson and charged him with first‑degree assault. He spent the night at the 7th Precinct in Shirley and is slated for arraignment at the First District Court in Central Islip on Monday. In court, he entered a not‑guilty plea, and a protective order was issued against him. Records show he has not yet retained counsel, and a follow‑up hearing is set for September 14.

This incident was the first of two stabbings that shocked the Mastic‑Shirley area over the Labor Day weekend—the second involved a son fatally stabbing his father earlier in the week.
