Shadows in the Corridors: A Child's Ordeal at Kolkata's SSKM

The fluorescent hum of a hospital, often a place of healing and anxious waiting, became, for one family, a setting for unspeakable horror. In the bustling corridors of Kolkata’s venerable SSKM Hospital, a seven-year-old girl, a visitor simply hoping to spend time with her ailing grandmother, found herself subjected to a chilling ordeal.

It’s a story that, frankly, leaves one feeling cold, questioning the very notion of sanctuary.

Picture this: a young girl, innocent and perhaps a little bored, wanders to a bathroom, a seemingly ordinary act within a public space. But here, within those supposedly private walls, an alleged betrayal of trust, a monstrous act, unfolded.

Her mother, later finding her child visibly distressed, immediately sensed something was terribly wrong. And in truth, a mother's instinct, as it so often is, proved tragically accurate.

The subsequent police investigation, thankfully swift, pointed fingers at a former hospital staffer, a man identified as Tarun Kayal.

It’s a bitter pill to swallow, isn’t it, that someone once entrusted with a role within such an institution could be accused of such a heinous crime? Authorities, leveraging crucial CCTV footage and the mother's courageous complaint, managed to apprehend Kayal.
