Several People Wounded After a Burst of Gunfire Rocks a Beaumont Neighborhood

When the first 911 call came in just after 9 p.m. on Tuesday, officers expected a routine disturbance. What they found instead was a chaotic scene of flashing lights, panicked bystanders and the unmistakable smell of gunpowder hanging in the air.

According to the Beaumont Police Department, the shots were fired on the intersection of Bollinger Street and Carter Avenue, a spot that normally sees quiet evenings and the occasional traffic jam. Within minutes, emergency medical crews arrived and began treating three victims who had been hit by the rounds. Two of those individuals were rushed to the hospital in critical condition, while a third suffered non‑life‑threatening injuries.

“We’re still gathering details, but right now the priority is getting medical help to those who need it and securing the area,” said Police Chief Mark L. Jones in a brief press conference. He added that detectives are canvassing the neighborhood, looking for any witnesses who might have seen the shooter or the weapon used.

Neighbors described a sudden barrage of loud cracks that lasted only a few seconds, followed by the screech of tires as people fled the scene. “It was like fireworks, but way scarier,” said Angela Martinez, a resident who lives two blocks away. “I heard the gunshots, saw people running, and then the police were there in a flash.”
