September 7 Weather Outlook: Heavy Rains and Thunderstorms Sweep Across India

Looks like the southwest monsoon isn’t ready to call it a day just yet. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has put out a fairly stark advisory for Monday, September 7, saying a mix of heavy showers, thunderstorms and brisk gusts will roll over a large swath of the country.

In the lofty terrains of Jammu & Kashmir and Himachal Pradesh, the picture is similar. Light to moderate rain will be common, but isolated heavy showers could surprise you in places like Kangra, Kullu and Mandi. Strong gusts up to 60 km/h may hit the higher elevations, so a sturdy jacket could be handy.

Bihar and Jharkhand won’t be spared either. Both states are expected to see widespread light to moderate rain, with pockets of heavier showers. Thunder and lightning are likely across many districts, so outdoor activities should be planned with caution.

Odisha, already grappling with flood‑like conditions in several pockets, may get an extra dose of rain that could raise river levels and worsen waterlogging in low‑lying zones. Residents there would do well to stay updated on local advisories.

Further down south, the monsoon’s mood is a little milder. Tamil Nadu and the coastal stretch of Andhra Pradesh are slated for isolated light to moderate rain, accompanied by occasional thunderstorms. However, surface winds of 30‑40 km/h could give the coastline a noticeable push, especially around Yanam and Rayalaseema.
