Seeking Clarity: Second Postmortem Conducted for Zubeen Garg's Father-in-Law, Rathindra Nath Sarma

Guwahati is currently observing a period of profound grief following the demise of Rathindra Nath Sarma, a highly respected senior advocate, social worker, and educationist. Adding to the family's sorrow, a second postmortem of the eminent personality, who was also the father-in-law of popular Assamese singer Zubeen Garg, was completed at the Gauhati Medical College Hospital (GMCH) this afternoon.

The decision to conduct a second postmortem arose from the family's dissatisfaction with the findings of the initial report.

Seeking absolute clarity and closure, the body of the late Sarma was brought to the hospital from his residence at Silpukhuri for this crucial second examination.

Dr. D. K. Baruah of the Forensic Science Department at GMCH confirmed the completion of the second postmortem procedure. This rigorous examination aims to address any lingering questions and provide comprehensive answers to the grieving family.

Rathindra Nath Sarma passed away at a private hospital in Guwahati on Thursday.

He had been battling various ailments associated with old age. His passing marks the end of an era for many in Assam, as Sarma was a towering figure in public life.

Beyond his legal profession, Sarma held the distinguished position of former president of the Assam Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC).

He was also an eminent litterateur, whose contributions spanned across various sectors, leaving an indelible mark on the social, educational, and political landscape of the state. His dedication to public service and his intellectual prowess earned him immense respect and admiration.

Following the completion of the second postmortem and necessary formalities, the body was respectfully returned to his residence.

The final rites for Rathindra Nath Sarma are scheduled to be performed tomorrow at the Navagraha cremation ground in Guwahati, where a multitude of admirers, colleagues, and family members are expected to gather to pay their last respects to a truly remarkable individual.
