Rock Fire Ignites Near Kings Canyon National Park, Prompting Evacuations in Inyo County

On Tuesday morning, just after dawn, a blaze dubbed the Rock Fire erupted on the eastern flank of Kings Canyon National Park. By the time local crews arrived, the flames had already licked through more than 1,400 acres of rugged terrain in Inyo County, California.

CAL FIRE, the state’s fire‑safety agency, confirmed the acreage – about 1,442 acres at the latest count – and warned that the flames were moving toward a handful of structures and a stretch of high‑voltage power lines. The exact cause of the fire remains a mystery; investigators are still sorting through the evidence.

Because of the rapid spread, officials issued evacuation orders for residents in the immediate vicinity.
