Remembering Thomas E. Kolanoski: A Life Well-Lived

It's with a heavy heart that we share the news of Thomas E. Kolanoski’s passing. He left us peacefully on May 23, 2024, at the age of 83, leaving behind a legacy of love, dedication, and a life truly well-lived in our beloved Orange County, California. Tom, as he was affectionately known, was a man whose warm presence and kind spirit enriched the lives of so many around him.

Born on November 19, 1940, Tom’s journey began with a sense of purpose that would undeniably define his years. He answered the call of duty early on, serving his country with honor and commitment in the U.S. Navy. This period, we can only imagine, instilled in him a discipline and a profound sense of camaraderie that he carried throughout his life, shaping the steadfast man he would become.

After his distinguished military service, Tom embarked on a fulfilling career in the dynamic airline industry, spending a significant portion of his professional life with United Airlines. Just think of the stories he could tell, the places he might have seen, and the countless people he must have met! It wasn't just a job for him; it was a deep commitment, truly a part of his identity. He genuinely dedicated himself to his work, making a lasting impact in his field.

Beyond his professional endeavors, Tom was, by all accounts, a man who cherished his leisure and his passions. He was an avid golfer, and you can almost picture him out on the greens, enjoying the sunshine, the quiet focus, and the satisfying challenge of the game. But more than any hobby, his heart, you see, belonged entirely to his family. He was the devoted husband to Susan, his beloved wife, and a wonderful, supportive father to his daughters, Kristen (married to Jeff) and Melissa (married to Danny).

The pure joy in his life was undoubtedly magnified by his adoring grandchildren: Ryan, Sarah, Sean, Kate, Allie, and Adam. He reveled in their presence, surely sharing wisdom, laughter, and endless affection with each of them. Of course, life also brought its share of profound sorrow; Tom was preceded in death by his cherished daughter, Lisa, and his loving parents, Frank and Bernice Kolanoski. Yet, through such profound losses, his enduring love for his family remained a steadfast, unwavering beacon.

Tom's memory will be treasured and kept alive by all who had the immense privilege of knowing him. He leaves behind a void, yes, but also a rich tapestry of cherished memories, a testament to a life lived with integrity, devotion, and an abundance of love. He truly made an impact, a positive mark on the world. To honor his remarkable life, a Funeral Mass will be held at St. Kilian Catholic Church, followed by his interment at Holy Sepulcher Cemetery. It’s a final farewell, but the spirit of Thomas E. Kolanoski will certainly live on, warmly remembered in the hearts of his family and countless friends.
