It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Andrew Paul Schumake, a beacon of joy and unwavering love, who departed from us on May 20, 2024, at the age of 53. Andrew, a resident of South Chicago Heights and formerly of Steger, leaves behind a legacy of cherished memories and a profound impact on all who knew him.
His sudden absence leaves an unfillable void in the hearts of his beloved family and friends.
Andrew was the devoted husband of Lisa (nee Panozzo) Schumake, his partner in life's adventures. Together, they built a beautiful life and a loving home, raising their two children, Danielle and Joshua.
Andrew's children were the absolute light of his life, and he poured every ounce of his heart into nurturing and guiding them. His love for them was boundless, a constant source of strength and inspiration.
A true enthusiast of the outdoors, Andrew found immense peace and happiness amidst nature.
Whether he was casting a line into serene waters, enjoying the tranquility of fishing, or simply appreciating the beauty of the natural world, he felt most alive when surrounded by its embrace. His connection to animals was equally strong, reflecting his gentle and compassionate spirit. Andrew also had a deep passion for music, often found strumming his acoustic guitar, filling his home with melodies that mirrored the rhythm of his soul.
Beyond his personal passions, Andrew’s greatest joy came from spending quality time with his family.
Weekends were often filled with laughter, the sizzle of a barbecue, and the warmth of bonfires under the starry sky. These moments, simple yet profound, created a tapestry of memories that his family will forever hold dear. He was a constant source of encouragement, support, and humor, always ready with a smile and a helping hand.
Andrew was a cherished brother to Peter (Kim) Schumake, Mary (Don) Mraz, Michael Schumake, and Theresa Schumake.
He was also a loving and adored uncle to many nieces and nephews, who will miss his playful spirit and genuine affection. He was preceded in death by his loving parents, Peter and Joanne (nee Beese) Schumake, who undoubtedly welcomed him with open arms.
The family invites relatives and friends to gather and celebrate Andrew’s remarkable life.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, May 23rd, from 3:00 to 8:00 PM at Smits Funeral Home, located at 649 E. 162nd Street (Route 6/159th Street), South Holland, Illinois. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Friday, May 24th, at 10:00 AM at St. James Church, 22240 Torrence Avenue, Sauk Village, Illinois.
Interment will be private.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made to them, as they navigate this incredibly difficult time. Andrew Paul Schumake’s memory will forever resonate in our hearts—a testament to a life generously lived, filled with love, laughter, and an enduring appreciation for life's simple, beautiful moments.
He will be profoundly missed, but his spirit will continue to live on in the lives he touched.
